SEPTEMBER MEETING MINUTES

There was no September 3, 2014 board meeting. Board members present were Chuck Verdon, Linc Haymaker, Reita Campbell, Teresa Haymaker and Don McDougall.

A nominating committee, consisting of Teresa Haymaker, Eugene O’Neill and Barbara Southern, was appointed. It will present a slate of nominations at the October meeting. Board positions up for election this year are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and one At Large board member. Chuck is not eligible to serve a third consecutive term. Nominations will be accepted from the floor at the October meeting, the slate will be published in the October CVARS Newsletter and the election will take place at the November meeting.

Chuck called the general meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag followed by people introducing themselves. The attendance sheets and CVARS Sunday 8PM Net Controller sheet were passed around.

There was an informal discussion about the Baw Faw Repeater Group merging with CVARS. The Baw Faw repeater is an important Lewis County Ham resource with broad coverage beyond the I-5 corridor. Some of the questions discussed were:

1.       How would CVARS finance the support of the Baw Faw repeater? Chuck said there would be a separate repeater maintenance fund.

2.       What Baw Faw Repeater Group equipment exists at the repeater site and what condition is it in? Mike Payne, Baw Faw Repeater Group President, gave a status report on the repeater equipment and condition.

3.       What are the repeater failure modes in the event of a disaster? Does it make sense to install solar backup power?

Merger details need to be worked out between the Baw Faw Repeater Group board and the CVARS board and then presented to the CVARS membership.

Jim Campbell proposed establishing a “Hearts and Flowers” committee to reach out to members who are missing from meetings for a period of time. The idea would be to foster a more caring group by reaching out, through cards, calls, and other contact, to members to let them know they are missed, that we care about what is happening in their lives, and to encourage them to come back. April VanDyck 360-749-3717, roseheartcottage@gmail.com, has volunteered to help us with that.

It was suggested that CVARS register as a 501(c)(3) organization. This will be discussed further at the next board meeting.

There were 27 people registering their attendance on the attendance sheets.
