JANUARY MEETING MINUTES

The January 2014 CVARS monthly meeting was held January 8th, since the first Wednesday is New Years Day. Because the Fire District 6 Training Room is being used by another group on January 8th, Bob Willey arranged the use of the Riverside Fire Authority training room, 1818 Harrison Avenue, Centralia.

The board approved a donation of $100 to the Fire Dogs Association, a benevolent association in Lewis County Fire District #6, in appreciation of being able to use the Lewis County Fire District #6 training room for our monthly meetings.

The board approved a donation of $100 to Gerald and Mary Fischer for electricity to power the CVARS WA7UHD 2-meter repeater.

Dick Morrison discussed the status of the CVARS repeater. The power amplifier has failed, so we are currently running with 5-watts output, which seems to be fine for the CVARS weekly 8 PM Sunday net. There is some concern about the repeater receiver dropping some people during their transmission. It may need to be tuned-up or replaced. If we can substitute another repeater system, we’ll be able to put this unit on the bench to check it out. The board agreed to search for another repeater receiver/transmitter/control system.

It was mentioned that Bill Harwell may request CVARS to assume responsibility for managing communications for the annual Historic Lewis County Bike Ride (see: http://cyclelewiscounty.org/lchr/ for last year’s flyer) held the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Bill wasn’t available to discuss the details, so action was tabled until the next board meeting.

Chuck called the general meeting to order at 7:30 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag followed by people introducing themselves. The attendance sheets and CVARS Sunday 8PM Net Controller sheet were passed around.

It was announced that a Technician License class is being held 1/9, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, and 2/13, from 7 to 9 PM, at the Riverside Fire Authority station #2, 1818 Harrison Ave, Centralia. The VE testing session is targeted for 2/27.

It was announced that CERT – Civilian Emergency Response Team – training is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, 1/17-19. At the Riverside Fire Authority Station #2 on Harrison Avenue. Time are 5-9 PM on Friday and 8 AM – 5 PM on Saturday and Sunday (see: http://lewiscountyteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/cert1.jpg for the flyer).

It was announced that a Technician License class is being held 2/8 and 2/15, from 9 AM to 6 PM, at the Packwood Fire Hall, 12953 US 12, Packwood.

Riverside Fire Authority Chief Jim Walkowski presented a program on his experience as a member of an emergency response team that went to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina (which struck  southeast Louisiana on August 29, 2005) and stayed for Hurricane Rita (which struck near the Texas/Louisiana border on September 24, 2005).

The meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM after drawing for 50/50. There were 50 people attending, 40 registered their attendance on the attendance sheets.
