AUGUST MEETING MINUTES

The August 7, 2013 board meeting was called to order by President Chuck Verdon at 6:51 PM. Present were Chuck Verdon, Barbara Southern, James Van Ornum, John Ellingson, Gary Litteer, Larry Pratt, and Don McDougall.

This year’s swapmeet brought in $1083 plus the donations for refreshments less expenses. The bank account now has $5868 in it. Feedback includes license testing area was too noisy, there was confusion about the starting time for testing, and the 8 foot parking lanes were too narrow. Perhaps we can use a space at the Senior Center next year. We’ll get the Swapmeet coordinator and the VE Testing coordinator to agree on the testing starting time and make sure the flyer includes this time. And we should use 10 foot parking lanes.

The Board agreed that the CVARS President’s telephone number should be posted on the cvars.org web site.

The board was reminded that this year’s election for President, Vice-President, Secretary and 2 At-Large Board Members  is at the November meeting. The President and Vice-President can only serve 2 consecutive terms, so we’ll need to have a new Vice-President nominated this year. A nominating  committee needs to be selected by the October Board meeting, with nominees listed in the October newsletter.

The board meeting was adjourned at 7:07 PM.

Chuck called the general meeting to order at 7:30 PM with people introducing themselves followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The attendance sheets and CVARS Sunday 8PM Net Controller sheet were passed around. The ham activities on the calendar for August and September were highlighted. It was announced that Ken Wages is moving to Nevada.

The program started with Larry Pratt describing a Solar Cooker he put together with cardboard boxes, aluminum foil and a turkey cooking bag, along with the cooking utensils he uses and the angle irons used to raise the utensils off the bottom of the cooker.

Then we showed 3 videos produced by Richard Miles. The first covered the Friday evening setup of the 2013 Field Day site at Fort Borst in Centralia. The second was actual Field Day operation on Saturday. And the third was of the CVARS Swapmeet.

The meeting adjourned at 8:38 PM after drawing for 50/50. There were 27 people attending.
