MAY MEETING MINUTES

The May 1, 2013 board meeting was called to order by President Chuck Verdon at 7:05 PM. Present were Chuck Verdon, Barbara Southern, James Van Ornum, John Ellingson, Larry Pratt, and Don McDougall.

The board approved plans to hold Field Day at Borst Park again this year, with setup on Friday, 6/21, starting around 5:30 PM. $125 was approved for food. John will arrange for a Port-A-Potty.

James reported that the certificate of Insurance was requested on 4/26 for the Swapmeet on July 27 (it arrived via eMail on 5/2, and was forwarded to John). The board approved the purchase of 10 Baofeng UV-5R dual band hand held transceivers, with 3 to be used as door prizes at the Swapmeet, and 7 to be sold to CVARS members. Additional planning details for the Swapmeet will be discussed at the July 3 CVARS meeting.

The board meeting was adjourned at 7:28 PM.

Chuck called the general meeting to order at 7:32 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag followed by people introducing themselves. The attendance sheets and CVARS Sunday 8PM Net Controller sheet were passed around. The ham activities on the calendar for May, June and July were highlighted. Chuch announced a study group for the General Class license being held on Thursdays at 6:30 PM at the Centralia EOC (2nd floor of the Centralia City Hall, 118 Maple St). It was suggested that John Ellingson send a Swapmeet flyer to the Radio Club of Tacoma.

Jim Pace presented a program about his experiences with the JT-65 weak signal digital communication mode on HF. This mode was developed by Joe Taylor, K1JT, especially for meteor scatter, ionoshperic scatter, and “moonbounce” (EME) on VHF and UHF frequencies. See Joe’s web site at:
