AUGUST MEETING MINUTES

The board meeting was called to order at 6:52 PM with James Van Ornum, Jeff Mayfield, John Ellingson,  Dick Morrison and Ken Wages attending.

1.       The trustee for the club station, WA7UHD, is Albert Jorgensen who passed away May 21, 2011. Dick moved that we change the trustee to Jeff Mayfield and  the club address to c/o James Van Ornum. Ken seconded the motion. The motion was approved by all the board members present.

2.       Dick asked if the CVARS repeater trustee (Dick Morrirson) should also be changed to Jeff Mayfield. It was agreed to leave Dick as trustee. The repeater is registered with The Western Washington Amateur Relay Association.

3.       John gave the following financial report on the swapmeet:
Gross income $1044.25. Expenses-facility $285.93, Friday night security $50, door prizes $188.95. Net income $519.37.

4.       Dick reported that the VE exam at the Swapmeet on July 30 yielded 1 new technician licensee.

5.       A revised CVARS Sunday Night Net preamble was circulated. It also has been posted on the cvars.org web site.

The board meeting adjourned at 7:22 PM.

James called the general meeting to order at 7:30 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and everyone introducing themselves with first name and call sign.

Announcements included:

1.       CVARS Net Controller signup sheet was circulated.

2.       CVARS meeting attendance sheets were circulated.

3.       James summarized the Swapmeet financial report.

Barbara Southern told us about the dedication on Thursday, August 25, of the roof top garden at the Vintage apartments. We are invited to setup an information display between 10 AM and 2 PM, along with several other community organizations. John Ellingson and James Van Ornum volunteered to staff the display.

Bill Harwell said we need to have tables and chairs when we have license exam, such as during the Swapmeet. We need 8 chairs. James will check what is available at the state surplus store in Tumwater.

Dick Morrison and Ken Wages volunteered to be the nominating committee for next year’s officers. A slate of candidates for President, Vice-President, Secretary, and 2 at large Board Members needs to be presented at the October meeting, with the election at the November meeting.

We talked about places to have the December dinner meeting. It was suggested that we check on the Virgil R Lee building at Penny Park. James will check on availability for Wednesday, December 7. Other possible locations include Borst Park and the Oakview Grange.

We talked about Field day. The general consensus was that Borst Park was a good location. We should check on having a Port-A-Potty on site. There is also an opportunity to have a setup at the Egg Day in Winlock.

There was a question about making the membership list available on the cvars.org web site. The concern is privacy. Bill Harwell will give James information about a way to restrict access to the list to just CVARS members and to let individuals opt out of the list.

Dick Morrison suggest we have an Elmer referral off the Licensing page that lists licensing classes and testing dates and locations. James will modify the web page. Dick will coordinate the Elmers.

Mark Lanning won the 50/50.

The general meeting adjourned and 8:38 PM. 17 people attended.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER

SWAPMEET – We had a great swapmeet. Thanks to all the buyers, sellers, and helpers who helped make this a successful event.

NEW HAM – Congratulations to the newly licensed technician class radio operator and the testers.

OFFICERS FOR 2012 – Think seriously about running for President or Vice-President or Secretary or one of the At Large Board Members. It is important for the vitality of CVARS and it is a commitment for only a year or two!
