MAY MEETING MINUTES

The board meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM with James Van Ornum, Jeff Mayfield, John Ellingson, Jim Campbell, Dick Morrison and Ken Wages attending. We had a late start because the combination for the entrance had been changed. Subsequent conversation with Eric Linn, Fire District 5 Chief, indicated that Eric had left Dick a message about the change. Dick had been out of the area until just before the meeting, so he had not heard the message.

James said that some people had a problem printing the newsletter when it was in the body of an email message. He proposed just sending a short email when the newsletter was posted on the cvars.org web site. On the web site, a link to the latest newsletter is near the top of the main page.

James suggested we start thinking about where to hold the December Dinner meeting since the District 5 Training Building would be small for that event. We will discuss this further at the next meeting.

James said we still are looking for a secretary to serve for the remainder of 2011.

The board meeting adjourned at 7:09 PM.

James called the general meeting to order by James at 7:30 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Announcements included:

1.       John Ellingson was holding a 50/50.

2.       John Ellingson reported a balance of $4259.48 in the club treasury.

3.       CVARS Net Controller signup sheet was circulated.

4.       CVARS meeting attendance sheets were circulated.

5.       James said a tour of the Mossy Rock Dam would be available Saturday, May7.

6.       Bill Harwell said the 29th Annual Lewis County Historical Ride would be held Saturday, May 7.

7.       Dick Morrison reported the VE exam held May 2 resulted in 14 new Technician class and 2 new General class licensees. Thanks were extended to Dick for his teaching and to the VE corps for their holding an examination session.

Bob Willey presented a sketch, which is copied below, of the Field Day (June 24-26) layout at Borst Park. During a general discussion it was decided that:

·         Setup would start at 6:30 PM, Friday, June.

·         Saturday’s pot-puck supper would begin at 5:30 PM.

·         Breakfast would be served at 8:00 AM both Saturday and Sunday. Bill Harwell will oversee the breakfast activity.

·         The N3FJP contest logging software would be used.

·         The assumption is that each station will operate on a single band, that is not switch bands during the event, so it is not critical to network the logging computers to avoid duplicates.

·         Evelyn Dailey, KE7ACI, will be contacting Rob Majoros, KD7RTL, for a coffee pot and possibly additional help on the food team.

Jeff Mayfield presented a video of Doug Wheelock operating as NA1SS from the International Space Station and talked about his experience contacting the ISS. The ISS video can be found at:

Jeff also showed a video of an air inflated antenna tower. We were not able to find a price for this antenna tower, which is available in three heights. Find the video at:

Chuck Verdon won the 50/50 pot of $20.

The general meeting adjourned and 8:43 PM. 24 people attended.
