FIELD DAY

Terry Neumann, N0KNG was in charge of Field Day this year.  He reports that if you weren't there you missed a good one.

Many thanks to all who showed up to help set up, operate, cook, tear down or just sit back, watch and relax. It tried to sprinkle on us just a little on Saturday morning as we were setting up but it could not dampen our spirits or our efforts.  By the time we got all stations up and operational it was probably 1:30 - 2:00 p.m.

We ran a 4A field day site this year, running 4 stations on other than commercial power. We ran the twenty meter shack out of the RV donated by Uhlmann Motors in Chehalis. A big thanks to them!!

The radio was furnished by Loyanne, KC7KCJ.  Bill, KC7QHJ put up a Moxon antenna and ran 15 meters and 75 meters from his RV. Jim, KC7ASV and Stephanie, KC7ASY housed the 40 meter and digital shack in their tent trailer. Eric, KD7CAO assisted in just about every shack at some point. Yours truly ran 10 meters out of my RV and although I was low man as far as number of contacts, I still had a great time.

A huge THANK YOU to Jim, KC7ASV for testing and analyzing each station before we went on the air to make sure they were all tuned and running properly.

Bob, WB6EUH set up and cooked pancakes on Saturday morning for all who came out to assist in the set up. Others who were on the scene were Loren, KD7EMH, Mike KI5KB, Doug, KC7TPK and Art, N7EIK. Tom, KC7AXW came in and operated the night shift so operators could catch some sleep. Everybody was able to come and do as much or as little as they wanted and enjoy the exercise.

I don't know about the score yet but I think we did all right. The idea is Emergency Preparedness and I believe we showed ourselves we can do it if it becomes necessary. We will publish the results when they have been calculated. Plan on joining us next year, the fourth weekend in June for Field Day 2001, the year of the Space Odyssey.              73   Terry N0KNG
